Want to delete your account?

We take your privacy and data protection very seriously. This page notifies you of your rights, ways to close your account, and information on what happens to your data. You can find our Privacy Policy here.

  • 1. Open Sanctuary and go to your Profile tab.

    2. Tap Settings, then Delete Account.

    3. Enter your password and confirm.

    Your stories are removed straight away and your account is scheduled for permanent deletion in 30 days. You'll be signed out on all devices.

  • If you can't access the app, or you signed up with Google or Apple and don't have a password, email support@sanctuarystories.co.uk from the email address on your account with the subject "Delete my account". We'll confirm it's you, process the request within 7 days, and reply when it's done.

  • For 30 days after you request deletion, your account is deactivated but recoverable: simply sign in again and it will be restored. Your stories, however, are deleted immediately and cannot be recovered, even if you restore your account. After 30 days your account is permanently deleted.

  • - Immediately: every story you've published or drafted, including their audio narration, along with the likes, comments and bookmarks on those stories.

    - Immediately: your profile is hidden from other readers.

    - After 30 days: your account and sign-in details, profile (name, username, bio, photo, date of birth), comments you left on other stories, likes, bookmarks, follows, reading and listening progress, society memberships, notification settings and device tokens.

  • - Moderation and safety records (reports you made or that were made about you, and any enforcement actions), kept for up to 12 months after deletion so we can handle appeals and meet our legal obligations. These are no longer linked to a usable account.

    - Anonymised, aggregated statistics (for example, total reads of a story) that can't identify you.

    - Product analytics and crash reports held by our processors (PostHog, Sentry), which are deleted on their standard retention schedules — no longer than 12 months.

    - Records we're legally required to retain, such as age-verification and terms-acceptance logs, for as long as the law requires.

    Societies or collections you created stay in place for their members, with your name removed as creator.
